Wernick Power Solutions has secured a £2.1 million investment from Lombard to acquire 36 battery storage units, in a move which will help the company offer its clients products which will substantially reduce their carbon emissions.

With a focus on growth, Wernick Power Solutions’ continued investment will help support the increase of its staff headcount by up to 15 in 2024 thanks in part to the growth of its battery storage unit fleet.

The new units will significantly reduce generator runtime, resulting in a decrease to emissions output, noise levels and fuel costs. These benefits will be seen by all the company’s customers hiring battery storage units across multiple industry sectors, including childcare accommodation and classrooms, site offices, GP surgeries and events. The use of the units will support Wernick Power Solutions’ ambition and commitment to helping its customers towards achieving their own net-zero goals.

Nick Crane, General Manager and Head of Wernick Power Solutions, said: “We’re serious about our commitment to helping our customers reduce on-site emissions and aiding their journeys to net-zero. The acquisition of these impressive new battery storage units represents our latest big step towards that goal. This latest purchase will take our fleet of battery storage units to over 130.

“NatWest has been a valued partner to us since the inception of our Group business 90 years ago, and Wernick Power Solutions just 5 years ago, and Lombard has provided exceptional support on our Group sustainability planning in recent years. We’re very proud of what we’ve achieved together to date, and we look forward to what’s yet to come.”

Phil Milton, Corporate Relationship Director at Lombard, said: “It has been a pleasure to collaborate with the Wernick Group to provide this latest investment in the future of their business. Having worked with them previously to provide asset finance for the company’s cabin fleet and other equipment, we know how committed they are to making their operations more sustainable. We’re excited to play our part in that evolution, especially with businesses like Wernick Power Solutions that are setting a leading example in their sectors.”

Wernick Power Solutions is part of the Wernick Group of Companies. The Group is celebrating 90 years of business in 2024 and employs over 800 people. As well as providing off-grid power solutions, Wernick is Britain’s largest independent manufacturer and hirer of portable and modular accommodation.

The investment from Lombard follows the company’s recent success in three environment categories at the Considerate Constructors Scheme awards, taking home the Environment Overall Organisation and Energy Efficiency awards, as well as Alexis Massey, Group Sustainability Manager, being recognised as Environment Champion in the Individual Achievement Award category.

Wernick Group has put in place a detailed Carbon Management Plan to enable it to reach its goal of becoming net-zero by 2040. The company is targeting a 45% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2030, and an annual carbon emissions reduction of 6.7%. The company is partnered with Energy Solutions (UK) Ltd in the operation of its battery storage units.
