This announcement follows an address yesterday (7th February) in which the the Secretary of State committed to generational reform with Great British Railways.

Other speakers include:

  • Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin, Chair, Transport for the North
  • James Heath, CEO, National Infrastructure Commission
  • Rt Hon Andy Burnham, Mayor, Greater Manchester

  • Oliver Coppard, Mayor, South Yorkshire
  • Jamie Driscoll, Mayor, North of Tyne

Martin Tugwell, CEO of Transport for the North, said:

“Insufficient investment in transport infrastructure and services is holding back the North’s economic potential. By delivering a greener and cheaper transport system, we would see benefits for our residents, businesses and communities, leading to a rebalancing and growing of the UK economy. The Northern Transport Summit 2023 will be the place to make the case to the Government to invest more in connecting our people and places so as to unleash our region’s potential”.
