Train operator Chiltern Railways has advised customers that services are likely to be extremely busy over the weekend, as well-wishers travel to London to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III.

Chiltern has an enhanced timetable in operation on Saturday 6 May, with lengthened trains and a handful of additional services running to accommodate those travelling to the capital to attend the Royal celebrations.

Despite the enhanced timetable, customers between London Marylebone and Oxford are reminded that due to the closure of the Nuneham Viaduct, Chiltern Railways is still the sole operator between Oxford and the capital, meaning that services are still likely to be extremely busy throughout the day.

Chiltern Railways has ensured that its stations reflect the celebratory tone of the weekend with decorative bunting and handouts across its network, with some station gardens seeing red, white and blue flowers planted ahead of the Coronation Weekend.

The operator is also working with the Heart of England Community Rail partnership on a school workshop in Solihull, where pupils will be tasked with designing a ‘Royal Train’ – with the artwork to then be displayed at the station.

With a live band at London Marylebone on Saturday, Chiltern Railways is looking forward to welcoming customers to the capital for this once in a generation event.

Customers are reminded that services are likely to be extremely busy on Saturday 6 May, and owing to this, should ensure that they check their full journey before travelling and purchase tickets in advance where possible on the Chiltern Railways website (www.chilternrailways.co.uk) or app.
