Hultsteins, the UK/Sweden manufacturer of onboard electrical power generators, has appointed Marvtech to provide sales and support services for its ecogen2 system in the North-West.

The market-proven ecogen2, used by temperature-controlled transporters to drive all makes of conventional diesel trailer refrigeration systems on electrical power alone, is now demonstrating its versatility by replacing the propane -fuelled burners traditionally required to maintain set temperature for asphalt hot boxes.

Based in Hapton, Lancashire, Marvtech manufacture a wide range of standard and bespoke hot boxes for tippers, towable, demountable and static applications.

Hot boxes are heated thermo-containers that are typically used by civils and utilities companies in the reinstatement and repairs of road surfaces. Until now, the heat needed to maintain the working temperature of the asphalt has only been achievable by using propane gas – carried on the vehicle in containers weighing up to 100kgs.

“This is all changing,” explains Marvtech Director Craig Ramplee. “ecogen2 draws power from the truck PTO to generate a constant electrical feed to our specially adapted hotbox systems, meaning our customers no longer require the expense and potential handling issues associated with propane gas.”

Accordingly, says Marvtech, operators can expect to make considerable savings on propane and ongoing maintenance handling and repairs, while eliminating any risks associated with flame – generated heat and all the harmful emissions which come with it.

The two companies worked together over the last year to perfect the new system and after a series of successful trials Marvtech has ordered a ‘significant number’ of ecogen2 units which will be supplied to its customers in the coming months.

“This is a game changer for the sector,” says Hultsteins Managing Director Graham Usher.

“Contractors and operators in the road construction industry can now benefit from the cost and carbon saving benefits of ecogen2, and with Marvtech on board, customers in the north-west of the country can rely on the highest standards of ongoing sales and service.”
