Hultsteins, the UK/Sweden producer of onboard electrical generation systems, has joined forces with specialist electric fridge manufacturer Courage, to provide sales and aftermarket services for the UK, Ireland and Sweden.

Courage Technologies, based in Sagunto-Valencia, Spain designs, develops and produces a comprehensive range of all-electric refrigeration systems for urban, inner city and ‘last-mile’ logistics operators.

Designed for vans and box bodies from 2 cubic meters to 32 cubic meters, for both mono and multi-temp configurations, the Courage system features a high-powered 24v or 48v lithium battery, built into the housing of the fridge.

It is fully ATP tested and operates at full speed for approximately 6 to 8 hours on a single charge. Optional flexible lightweight solar panels on roof of the box will bring even more autonomy. This, says Hultsteins is ideal for BEV (battery electric vehicle) vans and 7.5t -14t trucks as the fridge operation will not negatively impact the driving range of the vehicle. The system can also be fitted to diesel vehicles and combined with the Courage ‘Move on loading system’ the fridge never runs short of power – even for the most demanding multidrop operations.

Commenting on what the two companies describe as a unique green energy partnership, Hultsteins Managing Director for the UK, Graham Usher is upbeat:

“As environmental regulations bring pressure to bear across our industry, this patented system ticks every requirement in the sustainability box, offering zero emissions and virtually silent refrigeration for all urban transporters.”

“Moreover,” adds Graham, “because the Courage electric fridge is substantially lighter than a conventional diesel system and has virtually no internal moving parts, it requires very low maintenance which means operators can also expect to benefit from significant cost savings.”

According to Edwin Van Der Flier, Business Development Manager for Courage Technologies, the new partnership is a perfect fit.

“We are always looking for committed ‘E-Spirit’ dealers and like-minded innovators who can help bring our fully electric refrigeration solutions to the market. In this regard, Hultsteins’ long experience and proven success in the provision of sustainable transport refrigeration systems make them the obvious choice.”

A new 27 cubic metre demonstration body, fitted with a Courage CT5 MT dual temperature fridge and 20,5KW 48V battery, can be viewed at Hultsteins’ production facility in Biggleswade.
