South Yorkshire’s Hallam Express has taken delivery of its latest models from Volvo
Trucks, this time opting for eight new Volvo FH Aero 460 6×2 tractor units in order to
benefit from the vehicles’ fuel-saving credentials.

Supplied by Reece Middleton, Area Sales Manager, Crossroads Truck and Bus, the trucks
join an already predominately Volvo operation, with the Swedish manufacturer making up
the majority of Hallam Express’ 60-strong commercial vehicle fleet which includes both
tractor units and rigids.

David Simpson, Managing Director, Hallam Express, says: “We’ve trusted Volvo Trucks for
over three decades because its vehicles consistently deliver exceptional performance and
reliability. The new FH Aero model promises to take our fuel efficiency to the next level, which
is crucial for our operation.

“Our drivers are also thrilled with the advanced features that enhance both safety and the
overall driving experience. This investment aligns with our long-term strategy to maintain a
modern, efficient fleet.”

The customer’s new trucks each feature a Euro VI-compliant D13TC Step E engine,
producing 460 hp and a peak torque of 2,600 Nm, paired with a 12-speed I-Shift automated
gearbox and I-See predictive cruise control to yield significant sustainability benefits. By
opting for Volvo’s turbo-compound technology, Hallam Express’ drivers can maintain lower
revs and a higher gear for a longer time to deliver a more fuel-efficient journey.

The FH Aero’s fuel economy potential is extended through the truck’s sleek, aerodynamic
design, with the cab 24 centimetres longer than that of the standard Volvo FH. The
specification also includes an array of new technologies that help to reduce energy
consumption and emissions reductions by up to five per cent.

This includes Volvo’s Camera Monitoring System (CMS) which replaces traditional exterior
mirrors. The solution increases the driver’s field of view, while performing strongly in rainy
and dark conditions, direct sunlight and even when driving in tunnels.

“Fuel efficiency is paramount in our industry, and the Volvo FH Aero’s advanced design and
technology ensure we can maximise every drop,” adds Simpson. “This will not only help us
cut costs but also reduce our carbon footprint.”

In the vehicles’ spacious Globetrotter cabs, drivers have access to a fridge and microwave
oven, as well as the FH Aero’s built-in navigation system which features improved maps
adapted to truck-specific needs and benefits from automatic map updates.

The Volvo FH Aeros are each expected to clock up to 160,000 km annually, typically working
general haulage duties throughout the UK across the next three years. The vehicles are also
backed by a Volvo Gold Contract, guaranteeing maximum uptime and peace of mind.

Operating from its headquarters in Rotherham, Hallam Express is an established member of
The Pallet Network, offering full and part load general haulage, groupage operations and
warehousing services.
