The Ashcourt Group has taken delivery of four new 44-tonne Volvo FH Electric 6×2 tractor
units – the biggest single order in the UK to date for the manufacturer’s largest zero
tailpipe emission model.

The new trucks will be deployed within the company’s aggregates division, operating from
its facilities at Queen Elizabeth Docks and Foster Street, in Hull, and Pocklington, near York,
delivering to customer sites.

Supplied by Ross Neale, Area Sales Manager, Crossroads Truck and Bus, the FH Electrics
arrive as additions to the Ashcourt Group fleet to help service its increasing order book, with
the customer opting for electric rather than diesel-powered units to satisfy this need.
Emily Summerson, Operations Director at The Ashcourt Group, says: “Across the whole
Group, we’re making a conscious effort not to follow but to set the benchmark within the
construction industry when it comes to decarbonisation. These electric Volvos perfectly
complement our ongoing investment in providing sustainable construction materials, with
their arrival marking a significant step towards achieving our environmental goals.
“Having now witnessed their operational performance and the carbon reduction potential
first-hand, we’re convinced that electric mobility has a vital role to play in our sector. We’re
looking forward to placing more orders for electric trucks in the near future.”

The FH Electrics – sporting the Group’s distinctive light blue livery – have been equipped
with the maximum six batteries, offering an approximate driving range of up to 300 km and
a recharging time of just 2.5 hours while using a 250kW DC charger.

Each truck also features three electric motors, generating up to 666 hp and 2,400 Nm of
continuous torque, with this massive power handled by a unique traction control system
designed to master even slippery surfaces. Different drive modes are available to allow
drivers to fine-tune their desired performance, comfort, and energy usage levels accordingly.
Just as with customers ordering diesel Volvo FH trucks, the FH Electric uses the standard I-
Shift gearbox, which delivers a smooth and comfortable driving experience. This is
complemented by a Volvo Drive+ package on these trucks – adding fully electronic air
conditioning with carbon filter and sun, mist and air quality sensors, an electrically operated
roof hatch, and dual armrests – and leather upholstery.

The customer has also opted for the Volvo Dynamic Steering system, which provides
effortless steering and great manoeuvrability, and Adaptive Cruise Control.
“Our drivers have all given glowing feedback on the FH Electrics, especially with regards to
how comfortable and quiet they are to drive,” adds Summerson. “The specification ultimately
makes their lives far easier.”

The spacious Globetrotter cabs have also been equipped with satellite navigation, and a
Living+ package to include additional cab storage, a bottle holder and a fridge/freezer.
Operating across Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire and the North East, the Ashcourt Group is a
family-run organisation with more than 500 employees. The business supplies a range of
building materials and fuels, while also offering skip hire, waste collection, plant hire, as well
as construction, civil engineering and demolition services.
