The RHA held its first Welsh Parliamentary event last night (Thursday 9 November) in Cardiff.
RHA members from the haulage and coach sectors met with MSs and Welsh Government officials at the Senedd Cymru (Welsh Parliament).
The event gave members the chance to talk to the Government and other decision makers about the need for continued investment in roads and infrastructure.
Michael Gough, RHA Board Director for Wales who opened the event said: “It’s vitally important that MSs from all sides of the House understand how vital our industry is to their constituents and to Wales PLC.”
Gough, who is a Director at Llandrindod Wells-based hauliers, A E Gough & Sons added that commercial vehicle firms are the backbone of the Welsh economy.
Stephen Rowan, the Welsh Government’s Deputy Director of National & International Connectivity said they were committed to supporting the industry. He announced they’re developing a Freight and Logistics plan for Wales and encouraged RHA members to get involved saying they’ll be “central to creating a plan that delivers tangible benefits for Wales.”
Natasha Asghar MS called on the Welsh Government to invest in “much-needed infrastructure projects”, including the M4 Relief Road and a third Menai Crossing connecting Anglesey with mainland Wales.
The Shadow Minister for Transport and Technology said Wales needed more safe and secure lorry parking and better roadside facilities for truckers.
