Warehousing and transportation specialist Bretts Transport has bolstered its trailer fleet by acquiring 30 new 2.9-meter internal curtainsided trailers from one of the UK’s leading trailer manufacturers, Lawrence David.

The Wisbech-based logistics firm, which is known best for its specialism in the ambient food sector, has added the trailers as a part of its ongoing fleet replacement plan, adding to its 160-strong fleet.

The investment into Bretts’ new fleet totalled around £850,000. This latest fleet replacement round is the third in a series conducted by the business in recent years, all of which involved a similar number of trailers. The programme is expected to reach completion over the coming years.

The latest order builds upon a long-standing relationship between Bretts Transport and Lawrence David, which spans well over 40 years. In this time the family run business, which this year celebrates its 90th anniversary, has acquired over 650 trailers with the trailer manufacturer since their bustling partnership first began.

The trailers have been finished in Bretts’ distinctive livery and are operated by a fleet of 90 tractor units comprising a mix of Scania and Volvo models.

With a unique pillar-less construction to offer optimal loading and unloading access, the trailers also feature Lawrence David’s original dual locking hands-free buckles, an aerodynamic front and rear deflector to help reduce fuel consumption, full LED lighting systems, a chassis undergoing a KTL coating process, and maximum body access for operational efficiencies whilst maintaining optimum overall height.

Simon Brett, Managing Director at Bretts Transport commented: “Our long-lasting relationship with Lawrence David, which was developed initially by my father over 40 years ago, is a testament to their strong product offering and their premium service.

“Due to our operational requirements, acquiring durable trailers is fundamental to offering an optimal service to customers while also maintaining a strong safety record and contributing to fuel efficiency. Equally as our drivers will be operating them day in, day out, offering an ergonomic working environment that enables safe and efficient delivery of their cargo is vital.

“This is primarily why Lawrence David has been our supplier of choice over the decades as their attention to detail in the build process and quality of manufacture is far superior to others currently operating within the marketplace. Once we come to refresh our fleet years down the line the trailers will also have a strong re-sale value as they are built to last, which is an added benefit.”

Andy Dodge, Managing Director at Lawrence David also said: “We were delighted to provide Bretts Transport’s 30 internal curtainsided trailers in order to support their ongoing fleet replacement programme.

“The partnership built with Bretts over the decades is something that we’re immensely proud of at Lawrence David. We have developed a fundamental understanding of their business and what they need and as such can work within their parameters seamlessly.

“We are pleased to once again work with Bretts on their latest order and look forward to continuing our proud association with the business in the years to come.”
