Leading supply chain management company Armstrong Logistics has invested in a new Volvo FH Aero truck – the latest addition to its near 90-strong fleet and the first (check) to hit the road in Leicestershire.

The investment comes on the back of the recent acquisition of a Volvo FM Electric truck and will further help the Magna Park based company accelerate its decarbonisation goals.

The acquisition of the Volvo FH Aero completes the Volvo fleet which in addition to the Volvo FM Electric also includes Volvo FH with I-Save, Volvo FM LNG and regular FM diesel models and sees Armstrong Logistics as the only company to embrace the full Volvo powertrain line-up. Armstrong is also ordering a Volvo FL Electric rigid.

All the vehicles have been supplied by Volvo dealer Truck and Bus Wales and West with which Armstrong Logistics has had a relationship for many years.

The latest addition – the Globetrotter Aero – is part of Volvo’s FH range. It has a unique aerodynamic design and boasts a five per cent fuel saving. Highly efficient, it is ideally suited to long haul journeys. With a turbo-compound diesel 460 hp engine its front has been extended by 24 centimetres when compared with the standard Volvo FH, designed to create a more aerodynamic cab and provide improved driving stability.

Its design gives improved visibility for drivers, improving their safety and that of other road users. In addition, the design also provides improved visibility in wet weather, direct sunlight and on dark nights.

Traditional exterior mirrors are replaced with Volvo’s camera monitoring system, helping to further boost its aerodynamic performance.

Interior features include a single bed, microwave oven, fire extinguisher and general improved driver comfort.

The new vehicle will operate out of Armstrong Logistics’ 377,000 sq ft consolidated distribution centre at Magna Park in Lutterworth.

Justin Armstrong, Chairman of Armstrong Logistics, said: “Volvo trucks are a big hit with our drivers, ticking all the right boxes in terms of performance, reliability and comfort. From our point of view we find them to be the most fuel efficient on the market.

“We have been delighted with our new Volvo FM Electric truck and the Globetrotter Aero is another exciting addition to the fleet. Our investments demonstrate our ongoing commitment to keeping up with latest vehicle technologies and doing everything in our power to reducing our carbon footprint.”
